Dovetail’s new American commuter route

NJ TRANSIT Bergen Line is an upcoming Train Sim World 7 add-on being developed by Dovetail Games themselves. Following the release of Train Sim World 7, Dovetail’s internal team is developing a new US experience centred on the Bergen Line out of Hoboken, New Jersey.

The route is described as diesel-only, scenic, and action-packed. This is a significant announcement: it marks the first time Dovetail Games themselves have developed a new US commuter route since the Florida Tri-Rail debut in Train Sim World 7, and it shows continued commitment to the American rail market.

Hoboken Terminal

The route centres on Hoboken Terminal, a major transportation hub in New Jersey. Hoboken Terminal is:

• A major NJ TRANSIT hub serving multiple rail lines
• A terminal building with significant architectural character

• The starting point for Bergen Line service

Operating out of a major terminal adds operational complexity compared to a simple point-to-point route. Players will need to manage terminal procedures, platform assignments, and connections alongside the driving itself.

Traction: GP40PH-2B

The primary locomotive is the GP40PH-2B, a passenger-specific variant of the EMD GP40 diesel-electric locomotive. The GP40PH-2B was built specifically for NJ TRANSIT commuter service, featuring:

• Head-end power (HEP) capability to supply passenger cars with electricity
• EMD 645-series engine
• Accurate NJ TRANSIT livery
• Detailed cab modelling
• Authentic EMD diesel sounds

The GP40PH-2B is a classic American diesel locomotive, and having it as the primary traction gives the Bergen Line an authentic late-20th-century American commuter rail feel. This is different from the electric operations of Florida Tri-Rail and represents the kind of legacy diesel-powered commuter service still found on certain US corridors.

Rolling stock: Comet V

The route also features Comet V rail cars, a common sight on NJ TRANSIT commuter services:

• Comet V Cab Car: For push-pull operations with the GP40PH-2B
• Comet V trailers: Standard passenger cars for additional capacity

The Comet V is a bilevel (double-deck) commuter car that provides high capacity for the Bergen Line’s ridership. Operating in push-pull mode — with the GP40PH-2B at one end and a Comet V cab car at the other — is a classic American commuter configuration.

Scenic and action-packed

Dovetail describes the Bergen Line as both scenic and action-packed. The Bergen Line runs through the New Jersey suburbs, offering:
