Real-time location weather inside the sim, with a Dovetail Live login.
Official Live Weather, not a PC mod
Train Sim World 7 adds Live Weather as a first-party client feature. It is not the older PC community stack people still call Nimbus or Route Annotations. Those tools sit outside the game, scrape a weather API, and poke the sim through overlays. This page is only Dovetail’s in-game weather: real-time, location-specific data for the geography you are driving, applied inside the session.
The idea is blunt. If it is raining in Leeds this afternoon, Airedale & Wharfedale can rain with you. If Miami is clear, Florida Tri-Rail can stay bright. The next job still runs. You are not waiting for a canned Heavy Rain preset unless you choose one.
Full launch is 15 September 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Deluxe and Ultimate early access began 10 September 2026. Live Weather is not a paid SKU and not a Deluxe extra. Compare boxes on the editions comparison if you still need ICE 4 or the Class 333; weather is not the reason to upgrade. This remains a single-player simulator. Live Weather does not add a second driver or a lobby. Other trains are AI.
Dovetail Live is required
To use Live Weather you must log into a Dovetail Live (DTL) account. Dovetail uses that login to sync the request to weather information centres. Skip the account and you still play. Free Starter and Freight Hauler do not require Live. Live Weather does. Sharing through Creators Club also wants Live; that is a different feature.
You can skip the splash-screen sign-in on first boot. Create the account later from Live settings when you actually want the real forecast. If you blocked Live, re-enable it from Settings. An offline session still has the ordinary weather picker.
Do not confuse the Live login with owning a paid edition. Free Starter owners who later buy a core route still need the same DTL account for this toggle. The Training Center itself does not ask for weather data.
Older add-ons get today’s weather
Dovetail is explicit about era-specific maps. Live Weather is the weather as it is at the time of playing, not a historical reconstruction. A preserved steam route does not roll the sky back to 1962. A 1980s diesel map does not pull 1989 Miami humidity. You get the current meteorology for that real-world location.
Official notes also say routes running inside the Train Sim World 7 client can use Live Weather, including older add-ons after their TSW7 downloads exist. Steam can use compatible content during early access; consoles wait for full launch on 15 September 2026. Freight Hauler itself still only runs on TSW7 core routes at launch even if Live Weather works more widely.
That split matters. You can take a favourite older timetable into today’s rain. You cannot assume the new freight sandbox follows you onto that map.
Smoother transitions than previous TSW
Weather systems in this version switch between conditions more gradually than in previous numbered games. Cloud, rain, and clear spells develop instead of snapping. Lighting work (Enhanced Lighting on TOD4 routes, a more natural sky) is meant to sit under that, so overcast is not just a grey filter. PC players can still chase Epic, DLSS 4.5, or FSR 4 from graphics settings after the forecast is on.
You still choose time of day, layers, and traffic in Timetable the way you always did. Live Weather replaces the canned weather slot with live data. If you want a night run in artificial fog, leave Live off and use the old picker. Freight Hauler offers the same time, weather, and layer options as Timetable; the Live requirement does not change there.
Beginner controls do not depend on Live. Physics and rain are separate problems. A wet rail still asks for earlier braking on a loaded Class 66 even when the desk is simplified.
When to turn it on
Leave it off until you can stop a train. Finish getting started and the Training Center first. Then pick one geography. A Northern Class 331 stopper in real Yorkshire drizzle is the honest first test. Florida heat versus an actual Miami shower is the second. A long run on Nürnberg–Würzburg shows whether cloud still looks natural at speed.
Deluxe traction such as ICE 4, Class 333, and GP49H-3 is listed on deluxe locomotives; those cabs do not unlock extra weather. Core power is on standard locomotives.
