What the route covers
Birmingham – Shrewsbury is an upcoming Train Sim World 7 add-on from All Aboard Studios. The route stretches approximately 45 miles from Birmingham New Street, through Wolverhampton, and into Shropshire to Shrewsbury. It is the first All Aboard Studios route for Train Sim World 7, announced during Dovetail Direct 2026 alongside the game’s reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
The primary traction is the BR Class 158/8 diesel multiple unit in Transport for Wales livery. This is an all-new locomotive built from scratch by All Aboard Studios, featuring detailed cab interiors, authentic audio recorded directly from the trains, and a host of new faults and systems. The Class 158/8 will cover the main 2019 timetable included with the route.
A dedicated 2019 Cosford Airshow timetable is also included, recreating a full Sunday of operations on Airshow day with unique and special services as thousands of visitors descend on Cosford. Additional freight operations include Telford International Railfreight Park and Coton Hill Sidings accessible for shunting, alongside Coleham Depot for Railhead Treatment Train operations out of Shrewsbury.
Route highlights
The route covers approximately 45 miles of varied British railway: urban approaches into Birmingham New Street, the junction complex at Wolverhampton, and the scenic Shropshire countryside heading north to Shrewsbury. Stations along the line include Birmingham New Street, Smethwick Galton Bridge, Wolverhampton, Bilbrook, Codsall, Albrighton, Cosford, Shifnal, Oakengates, Wellington, and Shrewsbury.
All Aboard Studios has introduced a new AI Guard system where the guard operates their local door before releasing the main passenger doors — a small but historically accurate piece of railway operation brought into the simulation. The route also features changing seasons with bespoke details appearing throughout the year. Stations dress up for Christmas, fireworks light up the skyline around Bonfire Night, and the arrival of Cosford Airshow transforms both the railway and the surrounding world.

Traction: Class 158/8 in Transport for Wales livery
The BR Class 158 is a two-car diesel multiple unit built by British Rail for regional passenger services. The 158/8 variant refers to a specific sub-class with enhanced performance. All Aboard Studios has recreated this as an entirely new model for Train Sim World 7, featuring:
- Fully detailed cab with functional controls and displays
- Authentic audio recorded directly from the Class 158 units
- New fault system for realistic failure scenarios
- Interior modelling for both first and standard class
- Accurate Transport for Wales livery
The Class 158 is suited to the undulating terrain of the West Midlands and Shropshire, making it a characterful alternative to the EMU-heavy Yorkshire core route. Players should expect to manage engine parameters and manual transmission-style gear selection as appropriate for the diesel multiple unit.
Gameplay modes and scenarios
The route includes two distinct 2019 timetables:
Main 2019 timetable: Recreates everyday operations between Birmingham and Shrewsbury, tying into the 2019 timetable from Birmingham to Crewe. This allows players to route-hop at both Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton for extended sessions across the West Coast Main Line network.
2019 Cosford Airshow timetable: A dedicated recreation of a full Sunday of operations on Airshow day with a range of unique and special services. This is a one-of-a-kind experience not found on any other Train Sim World route.

How it fits with the Train Sim World 7 lineup
Birmingham – Shrewsbury is a post-launch add-on. It is not part of the Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate editions at launch on 15 September 2026. The launch-day core routes are Airedale & Wharfedale, Florida Tri-Rail, and Nürnberg–Würzburg.
This route adds significant depth to the UK side of the Train Sim World 7 library. Combined with Airedale & Wharfedale, it gives players two distinct British routes: one focused on Northern EMU operations and the other on Welsh-border regional DMU work. Both are in the 2019 era and feature real timetable operations.
All Aboard Studios previously developed the popular Birmingham to Crewe route for Train Simulator Classic. The Train Sim World 7 version of Birmingham – Shrewsbury is a new route, not a port of the Classic add-on.
